Kikim Media created three special features for the DVD release of the first season of HBO's Deadwood, which Fresh Air's David Bianculli said were "as good as DVD features get." The first piece, The Real Deadwood, is a 30-minute story of the real people and lawless roots of the town (above) that inspired the series. The other two pieces, An Imaginative Reality and The New Language of the Old West feature actor Keith Carradine in conversation with series creator David Milch about the ideas behind the show.
MIPCOM, the main international audiovisual content market, has honored the first season DVD of Deadwood with its MIPCOM Award for the Best Television Series DVD. The MIPCOM DVD Awards were organized in partnership with the DVD Association (DVDA, USA) and the International Video Federation (IVF, Belgium). An international jury chaired by Bernie Mitchell (President, DVDA) judged the original content of DVDs according to special features, web features and interactivity, programme content restoration and navigation and graphic design. Deadwood also won the Video Software Dealers Association award for Best Overall Presentation of a television DVD release.
